Dear sir,

Can any one provide WPS for crack repair in A890 duplex steel casting.

IS Filler ER 2593 is OK for doing welding.

Thanks in advance.

What's the specification/grade of DSS casting to be repaired. You need to specify that. The filler/ electrode used should match the chemical composition of the grade to be repaired.

It's advisable to perform  "Soln Anneal" following repair, as per A-890.

Appreciate your response.

Hi,
If possible send pictures of the crack.
How did you find this crack and when?

What is the exact material grade ?

Regards

Dear Sir,

Before executing any repairs in Duplex Stainless Steels it’s important to know the reason for presence of these cracks. Is this only caused by residual stress arising during cooling down after casting, for example due to differences in wall thicknesses, or are there intermetallic phases present which makes the material brittle and therefore causes the cracks. Especially in case of heavy wall thicknesses the presence of such microstructural parts is likely. If intermetallic phases like Sigma are present in the micros structure the material should be solution heat treated (1050 – 1130 °C) before performing any repair welding activities because there is a high risk that new cracks will arise afterwards when this such intermetallic phases are present.

Regarding filler metal ER2593, if this is a Duplex Stainless Steel similar to the base material than it should be OK. A repair procedure should be qualified on which also applicable corrosion tests are executed in order to ensure required corrosion resistance ( and acceptable microstructure without intermetallic phases) after repair.

Hi Abhimanyu,

Attached is the data sheet on A 890 3A alloy. The properties are the best with matching consumables. E-2553 or E-2593 are the choices. As this alloy contains high"C" HAZ hardness and could be an issue.

Crack repair should be done with due care, and PWHT (Soln Anneal should be done ) needs to be done as required. Clause S33 of ASTM A-890 is appropriate for repair welding of this alloy.
E/ER 2553 or 2593 weld metal  contains lesser "C" than base metal, which is critical for any repair welding. A good consumable manufacturer  could be of help. Many of them are present in the forum.

Hope this would help you.

Thanks
