both are except usage of shielding gas. C- For 100%CO2. M- Mixed gas. example Argon plus Co2 etc

E71T stands for flux core wire or tubular electrodes as per AWS. C stands for carbon dioxide as shielding gas and M stands for Argon+CO2 as shielding gas general (70+30)% or (75+25)% respectively.

Hi team,

If using E71T-1C, pls go with 100% CO2 only if you won't need to meet any physical properties,

if using E71T-1M, pls go with Mixture Argon + CO2 (Ar. 80%+CO2 20%) or (Ar. 98%+O2 2%) only if you want to meet physical properties...

Thanks
Vinoth. R

Just to add. You need to Qualify a new PQR for change in shielding gas composition as per ASME Sec.IX

E71T-1C & E71T-1M  have the same chemical composition and Mechanical and the point to consider when using CO2 0r Ar-CO2 mixture is to ensure that the mechanical properties are verified by using the same shielding Gas combination in the consumable certificate which will be available with consumable supplier for the required Lot Number.
