Annalur plate area without backing strip can do welding , what about probleams came , anyone explain ?

I think it will be SQR Butt weld preparation, there more penetration or some area no penetration without Backing Strip (BS).

NDT Inspection it will be difficult in interpretation if no BS.

API STD 650 spelled out BS required. 

If no BS weld metal will touch the concrete base and prone to early corrosion . if you see other plates it will be weld as lap joint.

Expert can add more points.
