This is a very good point highlighted by you Raghu. But it does not seem to
be very serious as the following points must be taken into consideration:
1) Table QW442 is mandatory for A-number designation. But QW404.5 defines
the use of the variable and the last para reads,
In lieu of an A-Number designation, the nominal
chemical composition of the weld deposit shall be
indicated on the WPS and on the PQR.
Designation of nominal chemical composition may also be by
reference to the AWS classification (where such exists),
the manufacturer's trade designation, or other established
procurement documents.
In this light, the restriction is only to use ER 70S6 as A=1 inadvertantly.
But you may use the filler metal ER 70S6 in WPS with support of the same a)
designation (ER 70S-6) in PQR.
The same can be done for the trade name or the purchase specification of
the company if the procurement is governed by that.
Thus, the use of ER70S6 (or ER70S-7 for the same reason) should be done
carfully.
Anyway, thanks for highlighting this point in benefit of the group.
(Correct me if some interpretation is not correct)

Prasad Joshi
