Dear experts,
Anyone know why some of the client not allowed for overlay in longitudinal direction in nozzle I. D, PIPE I.D,Elbow I.D. Is there are any technical reason??

Hi!
Generally petrochemical Ind spec
Allows logngitudinal overlay in pipe smaller than 50mm ID

 However
I)For pipe ID overlay in longitudinal way causes more distortion compared to circumferential O/lay
ii)Longitdinal O/L =difficult to maintain uniform ID after overlay hence some time recommended  to machine the ID to  achieve uniform overlay thk in pipe

I have come across situation that even for 250 mm nozzle ID weldoverlay has been in longitudinal direction and approved by Korean client.

Standard good practice is to apply weld overlay in circumferential direction. However in case of small diameter nozzles is to deposit weld overlay in the longitudinal direction.

This is to avoid the overheating (too high inter pass temperature) which should occur in case the weld overlay is applied in the circumferential direction.
