Hi Experts,
I am facing so many time the welding have magnet.A magnetic field present in the weld preparation region of pipe components can cause the type of weld problem that could never pass inspection.I want remove magnet from the joint. Can i get solution?

Thanks,

Demagnetizing equipments are available in market or use MT equipment to remove or SR

Dear GV,

Generally welding can be done defect free at a magnetic field of 20G. Secondly if using GTAW, 10G creates problem in arc stability. So check with the magnetic strength and the process.

Magnetism can be minimised by any of the method;
1. Using demagnetizer available in market.
2. By creating magnetic field in opposite direction that of current magnet by passing current through coil.

Hope I have answered your query.

Wrap weld cable around the pipe and start welding.
By this magney field will be reduced.

If you notice an increase in magnetism, change the direction of the coil or reverse polarity. The direction of the magnetic field will be in accordance with the rule of right hand.

I hope attached sketch will help you to understand how to coil apply for demagnetizing.

Hi Eyup,
You need to demagnetise the joint, first measure the magnetic field intensity and plan accordingly. You can use AC from your welding machine if a proper set up to demagnetise is not readily available.

Hi.,

Thanx for info.

wrap the ground cable and two ground cables one on each side of the joint, weld towards the arc blow and worse case
temporary weld a bar across the pipe.Attached a photo.

Best Regards,
GV
