Hi,

We have qualified WPS as per AWS D1.1 for material IS 2062 E350 material , now we want to weld material IS2062 E250 material, Can we use the same WPS ?

as IS 2062 E250 - Tensile strength - 410 MPA &
IS2062 E350 - Tensile strength - 490 MPA

Please suggest your views.. Urgent.

IS 2062 is unassigned material as per
AWS D1.1

You will be using E7018 for both  IS2962 Gr 250 and IS 2062 Gr 350

Speak to QAC and elaborate above details  that both are Carbon steels.
Unassigned to Unassigned is qualified and it qualifies
Unassigned to Unassigned
Grade is different but E 7018 mechanical  properties are compatible to both materials.

So is acceptable

Dear Nilesh,

No, you cannot use the same WPS for IS 2062 E250 material if it was qualified for IS 2062 E350 material. According to AWS D1.1, WPS qualifications are specific to the tensile strength of the material, and IS 2062 E250 and IS 2062 E350 have different tensile strengths (410 MPa vs. 490 MPa). A new WPS qualification is required for IS 2062 E250.

Regards,

AB
