Hi,
Please find below the formula for tube expansion percentage.With this you can fix the max.allowable expansion percentage in relate to the thickness of the tube after expansion. also you can find the thickness of the tube after expansion by using this formuls(Tube ID after expansion-Tube OD / 2).In no case it will not be less than the design thickness of the tube.
The tube longitudinal and compressive stress shall be calculated by TEMA RCB7.23 or 7.24.
Formula.
K = ((d2-d1) - (H-D))/2T X 100%
d2 = (H-2T+(Kx2T)/100)
Pls.see the attached file of sample calculation sheet.In this sheet you can input your datas and you will get the thickness reduction and tube ID after expansion.
You can fix the K from 3% to 15% or what will be the minimum and maximum expansion percentage you fix.
Where,
K-Expansion percentage,decrement of tube thickness
T-Tube wall thickness
d1-Inside diameter of the tube before expanding
d2-Inside diameter of the tube after expanding
D-outside diameter of the tube
H-Inside diameter of the tube sheet hole
Thanks & Regards,
(karthik)
You can just make this in an exel sheet
