Hello All,

I've measured hardness for my job using portable hardness tested in BHN. Can I calculate UTS of the job from the hardness values.

Thanks in advance,

Priyanka Deshmukh.

Hi,
You can use hardness conversion tables only for non austenitic steels.

ASTM A 370 specification gives approximate hardness conversion numbers for some materials. See it. I hope it is useful for you, also you can use chart to convert BHN to tensile strength value,

Please Check this link  https://www.ctemag.com/news/articles/tension-testing-or-calculation  Maybe it's helps you.

With Regards

You can Refer Astm A 370 _68..however it has limitations and  is not applicable for all materials..it shows approx.values.

Need to conduct Tensile test for reliable value of tensile strength.
