For welding EN 24, which has Ni, Cr, & Mo, U can use SMAW process using E 10016G electrode. This electrode could be used to weld EN 24 to MS also.

Alternatively try with  E 7018/E7016/E 8018G ( addt. 0.6 Ni) since MS is welded to EN 24.

Pr-heat the joint to 250 deg C min. for better results. Maintain interpas temp up to 200 deg C. or so.

Subject: [MW:16230] Welding of EN24 300 mm dia rounds to 50 mm thk MS plates

Hi All,

For carrying out some modification work in Return Ladle Transfer Car I have to weld EN24 300 mm dia rounds to 50 mm thick MS plates. I have heard about the extreme cracking tendency of EN24. Kindly suggest if it is possible to complete this job without TIG? If yes then what will be the procedure and consumables? Kindly send me suggestions soon.

Thanx
