What is your application of the said electrodes?

What complaint that the welders are complaining? What do you mean by "Quality of the electrodes"?

Also, what is the brand and trade name of both. Or else contact manufacturer, who is the best advisor.

Dear Expert,

Wt reference to the subjected matter, kindly provide the difference between E347-15 and E347-16. as initially we were using E347-15 and it working good but now we hv changed to E347-16 and our welders are starts complaining ab the quality of electrode. pls advice if it need some other Technic to weld or parameter variation.

E 347-15  is a basic version of 19/10/Nb  and welded using DC EP (+) Polarity, while E347-16 is a rutile  version of same 19/10/Nb
and welded using AC (or) DC EP.

In fact it should be easier to weld with rutile type ( E347-16)  and it  gives good finish compared to basic type. Current  for both are
same and pl. check.

1. E347-15 will have better penetration than E347-16 but 15 is difficult to handle than 16. mostly 16 is used for surfacing and finish is superior than 15

Mr.Samir Mehta,

Have seen the details and comments as follows:

1. The welds shown in the middle pic. (think  it should be with E 347-15) are no doubt good.
2. Coating on L H type electrodes are bit medium heavy. Stringer runs always gives very good bead finish and ripple factors.
3. On the other hand the  bead done with E 347-16  (3rd pic.) was more wide i.e., it is a weave bead and produces
more heat in put and poor ripples - that is what you have got.
4. Stringer run produces less heat in put competitively and is good for SS welding. Weaving if done should be restricted to
max. 2 times dia. of core wire to get best results.
5. Blue colour seen on the weld bead is due to formation of Chromium-oxides and may result in corrosion while in service..
   It is not desirable.
6. Use stringer runs with E347-16 also throughout  like in basic coated electrodes and you will get same results.

Sridhar.
