Dissimilar welding of BS3100GrA2 to SS 304

Dear All,

A new qualification was made with BS3100 Gr A2 to SS304 pipe welding in 6G position. Hardness value of Weld while testing was found to be 415 and 418 HV10, while in other areas of HAZ, Body where within the range of 175-198 HV10. 

Kindly give your suggestion on why this drastic change in hardness and the acceptance of it.

BS 3100 A2 is supplied in heat treated condition , 

- may be you used ferritic electrode which get high C from CS Base Metal and without heat treatment formed hard phase

- as indicator , what about bend test ? ( free from fissures and small notches in bend faces or have )

 

so , u can check the phase on hard points through its microstructure then decide if weld metal chemical is suitable or need to be modified
