Hi Pravan,
Duplex stainless steel can be overlayed on a substrate of C.S or LAS. Alternatively you may hard face on duplex S.S with due precaution because the interface would have a tendency to embrittle.
From your query I would presume that you want to overlay duplex S.S on a substrate of C.S or LAS. Under those circumstances the following would be be appropriate:-
- Barrier layer with E-309L/309LMo, use 1/8" diameter
- Subsequent layers with E-2209 , 1/8" OR 5/32" dia.
The barrier layer chemistry is greatly affected by the dilution rate which depends on the welding parameters. Hence choose the optimum welding parameters as per consumable manufacturer. The same applies for the subsequent layers also.
Follow the guidelines in ASME Sec-IX for qualification of welding procedures.
