Hi,

Is it possible to increase the joint quality factor of SAW pipes?

As per B31.3, joint quality factor for SAW pipes is 0.95, but  the code has not mentioned anything about increasing this joint quality factor to 1 by any additional testing.

Could you please provide me any reference from the code or its interpretation  which permits to increase the joint quality factor by carrying out 100% RT.

Regards

Syed Moin

Hi Moin,

You can have it equal to 1 with 100% RT but in your design calculation of pipe wall thickness you must consider it as 0.95 for SAW pipe.
Many vendors offere welded pipe with joint efficienct factor of 1 with addition testing. e.g. Butting, Outokumpu etc
