Dear All,

Welder is qualified on base metal IS 2062-IS2062 and electrode E7018.

With ref. to AWS D1.1, can this welder weld base metal IS3443-55C11-IS3443-55C11 with electrode E11018? Or require new qualification?

Request you to brief with clause.

Thanks & Regards,
Vishal Sharma

Hi, Vishal,
For welders qualification in AWS D1.1 the process and F No is essential, So any electrode with F no, higher than what he is qualified, he would be required to requalification.
For eg. welder on Carbon Steel Electrode F No. 4 cannot weld SS cos the electrode there is F6, but when it comes to FCAW, he can weld, as both the wires are F6

Hope I have clarified.
regards

Hi all,
Yes i strongly agree with Mr. Rudolf. Even it may be AWS D1.1 OR ASME
Sec 9, P no and Fno are manditory so you have to go for
requalification.

ASME SEC 9---- E7018 & E11018 are Fno4
In steel group(Pno 1 to P no15F), for welder pno is  not essential essential because if he is qualified in Pno 1, he can weld from Pno1 Thro Pno15F. And also base metal is  not essential variable as per AWS D1.1
