Dear all

we have done CRO on SA516 Gr.70 ,we got ferrite content above 2.5mm
from the weld interface as 0% will it have any negative effect on our
CRO(ER NiCrMo-3-filler,SAW-process)

Dear Rinshu,

Please note that in the Inconel Weldoverlay(ER Ni Cr Mo-3). There is
restriction of Fe not Ferrite.

Most of the time Fe is restricted to maximum 5%.

You are getting Fe 0% is good because most of the time welding
engineer is struggling to maintain Fe below 5%

Rinshu,

ERNiCrMo-3 weld metal is 100% Austentie, so there is no surprise that you get 0% ferrite.

I dont see any negative side of having no ferrite, you only need to take care having a clean surface free from any contamination, a contaminated surface would introduce P & S in the weld metal and can lead to microfissuring.

Your requirement for ferrite comes only in austenitic stainless steel weld metal which has 4 - 8% ferrite after solidification to swallow all those tramp elements.

Regards,

Praveen
