Hi

In my opinion there is no requirement given in ASME Sec VIII Div.1 about the diameter of pressure gauge to be used at the time of Hydro test.

Why don't you refer UG-99.

Hi,

Refer UG-102 of asme sec VIII div 1 ( for div 1 pressure vessels).

Range of pressure gauge shall be 1.5 to 4 times the test pressure.

This requirement covered in Indian Boiler regulation-1950.
Please refer regulation no.327 (e).

This is an interesting question. But logic dictates that what they display should be easily detectable / visible.
One should direct it to the gauge manufacturing company(ies) on the criteria they use to make their gauges of a particular size?

No specific requirement as per ASME, in general 4" / 6" Dia gauges are
ideal apart from 1.5 to 2 times range.

As per API the gauge diameter shall be 4-1/2", and pressure test shall be conducted above 25% & Below 75% of full gauge scale.

Hi Binoy,

Reg. 327, Reg. 328, Reg. 329

Boiler pressure gauges shall not be less than 150 mm in diameter.

But none in ASME Code.

Hi Binoy ,
The size of the gauge is decided according to the client specification. As per  ASME SEC  V, T 1030 and Sec VIII Div 1, UG 102 there is nothing given except the pressure range. Normally a gauge used is 41/2".
