Dear friend,

I have a query as below.

Our customer had establised a WPS/PQR  in 2G position - 16 mm thk plate.

They want qualification test for welders in 3G position (6mm Thk Plate), Can we allow the same?

Electrode: E7018
Coupen : IS 2062 Gr. B plate
Ref. Code : AWS D1.1

Regards,
Checks

Dear Kaushik,

As per AWS D 1.1  for procedure qualification the position is an essential variable.  Hence you should have WPS in 3G position to qualify the welder in 3G position.  As per ASME sec. IX position is not essential variable for WPS.

Frined,

As per AWS D1.1, table 4.1, if WPS is qualified in 2G position, it can be used for welding in 1G and 2G positions only.

WPS qualified in 2G positions cannot be used for welding in 3G position or qualifying welders in 3G positions.

Regards.

John

Hi,

Cannot possible to use the Same WPS.

May be you can write the Prequalified WPS for the 3G position ,

Or

You can qualify the WPS for the 3G position to qualify the welders

Or

You can go for the Production mock up

HI
IT IS NOT ALLOWED BECAUSE IN WPS 2G NOT COVER 3G SO YOU HAVE NOT QUALIFIED WPS IN 3G POSITION
