Dear expert,

Query:

Service: HF
MoC: SA 516 Gr 70
P No. - 1
Thickness - 40mm

Is PWHT specifically required for HF service?

Client has not mentioned anything about Lethal or Sour service.

Pl suggest.

Regards,

PGoswami

If you’re following API RP-751, then yes. Look at clause 3.3 of this RP, for guidance on PWHT for HF service. What’s the precise service , HF Alkylation?? Ask your client to clarify.

Appreciate your response.

Thanks.

Greetings,

For your mentioned thickness need pwht.

If you ask regardless to thickness for hf which is to be understood hydrogen service yes required but not necessarily for p no 1,but yes our client requires for p3, 4,5abc.

So its your clients requirements and his spec to be followed.

Thanks

Since the thk is more than 38 mm, PWHT is required irrespective of service as per Div.1.

NACE-01345  is a useful reference for HF and AHF applications.

Dear Friend,

Is it possible to avoid the martensite structure on HAZ area of base metal during hardafcing? if yes you can eliminate PWHT. During hard facing on 40.0mm thick base metal, more chance are there, martensite will be formed on HAZ area, so PWHT is essential one.
