As per Sec IX 2011 a , there were some changes in Heat input
calculation regarding overlay. Can any body explain me with expample.
We have one corrosion overlay qualified on CS material with E309LMO and E 316L.
The heat input for first pass is 0.815 KJ/mm
, second pass 0.7 KJ /mm
final pass 0.715 KJ/mm
What changes to done in in the WPS as per ASME Sex. 2011a.

Venkat
Hi Venkat
Per Sec IX, QW409.26, for first layer only, an increase of more than 10% of Heat input or volume of weld metal qualified requires Requalification.
This restriction is only applied to first layer due to the reason that, an increase in heat input or volume of WM on first layer, may increase the tendency to have more dilution with the base metal.
In your case, first pass (first Layer-E309LMo) is 0.815 Kj/mm. this can be increased to 0.815*1.1=0.896Kj/mm.
Other passes, there is no restriction on heat input.
The first layer
QW409.26 refers back to QW409.1 to calculate the heat input or volume of weld metal. there you will get more info about wave form controlled welding.

The Heat input calculation by "volume of weld metal" has been removed. Ie
QW-409.1(b) is not applicable for QW-409.29
