The
only difference in those rods is the amount of silicon deoxidizers in them.
They are identical
rods otherwise. The higher number at the end means there is more
silicon in the rod. So, -6 has
more than -3
The more silicon IN -6 will help with contaminants
and wetting of the weld pool but with TIG it
makes the puddle a little harder to control. Prefer to use -6 for MIG as it makes a great weld with
Ar + CO2 or with pure CO2 gas. O2 is removed out in the form of Mn O2 & SI O2.
SFA 5.18, ER-70S-3 generally has less low
temperature impact properties. It provides 27 J impact
@ -20 Deg C. Both ER-70S-2 and Eh R-70S-6
will provide 27 J impact @ -30 Deg C and above.
ER-70S-2 filler wire with its triple deoxidizers (Al + Ti + Zn) is
good with TIG and could be made
to meet min. impact at -30 (or) -46 deg. C. if manufactured specially. On the other hand, ER-70S-6
has high Manganese and provide more UTS values comparatively..
You can try 80S-Ni filler Wire under SFA 5.28 and
this filler provides impact @ -46 Deg C. Similarly
while E 7018
provides 27 J at -30
deg. C , E 7018-1 provides at -46 C.
Trust above details will help U to choose your right requirement.
