Dear Members,

I would like to know if I can use SA-815 S32760 material for ASME Sec VIII Div.-1 2010 Ed 2011 Add. This material is not listed in 2010 Ed but was added in 2013 Ed.
Apart from the above I found that Code Case 2245-1 allowed the use of S32760 material. Could some one please forward me this code case. I referred the 2013 code case 2245-2 would like to know if this is the same.

Thanks and Regards

John Henning

Hi Thaksen,

Case 2245-1, 25Cr-7.5Ni-3.5Mo-N-Cu-W Alloy, UNS S32760 Forgings, Plate, Sheet, Strip, Bar, Seamless and Welded Pipe and Tube, and Fittings Section VIII, Division 1Approval Date: October 29, 1999

Case 2245-2, 25Cr-7.5Ni-3.5Mo-N-Cu-W Alloy, UNS S32760 Forgings, Plate, Sheet, Strip, Bar, Seamless and Welded Pipe and Tube, and Fittings Section VIII, Division 1, Approval Date: December 15, 2011

Specifications  covered are SA-182, SA-240, SA-479, SA-789, SA-790, and SA-815.

Both of  these code cases are identical. The use of this alloy  for ASME Sec-VIII, DIV-1 construction was extended thorough these code cases , till their incorporation in Sec VIII, DIV-1 Code,2013 edition:-
  • Vide File No, 07-695 :- Revised Tables UHA-23 and UHA-32-4 to incorporate Code Case 2245-1 allowing the use of duplex stainless steel corresponding to UNS S32760 in various product forms for temperatures up to 600°F (316°C).
Effectively Zeron 100, UNS 32760 is now well integrated into Sec VIII, DIV-1 code, 2013 edition. Hence the above code cases are no more valid. See the attachment highlighting the changes.

In your case if the design  is based on Sec VIII Div.-1 2010 Ed with 2011 Addendum, either 2245-1or 2245-2 should be applicable , based on the date of adoption of the code  and the addendum.

If your organization subscribe to electronic  version of  ASME/IHS then the above code cases could be downloadable.

One Question:- Why the insistence is on 2010/2011 version of  Code cases, when you've well integrated version of 2013 code available.??

Thanks.

Dear Thakesen:

It's Zeron 100 and is an ASME approved material. We have just had similar case and received approval for use of UND 32760 instead of UNS32750 (original design was 2507).

Dear Mr. Pradip,

Thanks for your reply. we received this project on 2012 so now we had to use the 2011a addenda. Else we will definitely go for the 2013 edition.

Regards
Thaksen
