Dear All,

We have one scenario, shoe support welded on long seam of pipe. Picture attached.
Pipe material is UNS 31803 and construction code B31.3
Could you please tell me whether this is acceptable or not? If not, what is the solution?

Thanks & Regards,
Anil

accepted subject to grinded seam area clear RT.

any way what is reason of seam kept at bottom.
it should be upward or atleast 20-30 degree from bottom.
due to corrosion issues almost all client spect not allowed seam orientation at bottom.

regards
mohd.

Dear anil
Normally in such cases contractor take deviation request from client but definitely they have to perform RT prior to covering.kindy check with  the pipe mill for rt details thru the contractor..now client has to finalize I think..

Kumar

such weld overlaps are not recommende due to
1) close proximty weld and over laps produce undersired hard HAZ which could lead to cracks.
2) leaks if any from overlapped welds go undetected. (IF OVERLAPPED BY PADS).

SOLUTIONS

1) if overlaps unavoidable, with clients concurrence, shoot rt or ut of weld to be overlapped.
2) in your case you can make a semi circular or rectangular notch on shoes ( like rat holes) to avoid overlapping the welds.

In case of SS;DSS; and Galvanised pipe we always use clamp type shoe. Which can save expensive welding , after welding steps and easy installation.
