What is major difference between ASME SEC.- VIII Div- 1 & Div- 2.

Div 1 is for designing of vessels with detail formulae &
Div 2 is alternative rules for Pressure vessel including Duties & responsibilities and inspection rules for manufacturer

Hi

Major difference:
ASME Sec VIII Div1: applicable to vessels designed for pressure not exceeding 3000psi (20MPa).

ASME Sec VIII Div 2: applicable to vessels designed for pressure from 3000psi(20MPa) to 10,000psi(65MPa).

In my opinion,
 
Div II is more stringent than the Div I interms of construction.

Hi,
 
Please note that the div-1 uses higher factor of safety (higher material thickness and higher material requirement) whereas div-2 uses lower factor of safety (lower thickness and lower material requirement .
 
For div-1 --> Allowable Stress = 67% of Yield Stress @ design temp
For div-2--> Allowable Stress = 90% of Yield Stress @ design temp
