Dear experts,

Our client has allowed a root gap of 20mm in between pipelines. But due to some constraints the root gap will be more than the allowed limit. Can I know how to fill the gap(build up or use of a filler metal) as per AWS

Thanks

Hi,

Root gap 20mm? Noway. You have to follow as per approved WPS. if the root gap is more than the WPS requirement, expose both sides of the pipeline section at least 25 mtrs and try to do the fitup during the highest day temperature and you may get the required root gap due to expansion of pipe section, If not cut one end pipe section and insert puppiece to complete the tie-in.
