Dear Members,

In general, we all know based on description given in ASTM of A671 & A672 that A671 is used for atm. & low temperature service & A672 for H.P. service at moderate temperature.

However, if we compare the details e.g. A672 Gr.C60  & A671 Gr. CC60; the raw material plate used is same for both pipes & final mechanical properties is same.
Heat treatment is same.
Can any one explain or comment if  A672 Gr.C60 with Suppl. req.S2 can be used for Low temp. service & why?

dear desai

No problem for low temp service ,both materials fall on curve C,with Supp.req S2 you may go for low temp  .

I am quite later to reply this.

The difference lies in the testing requirements. A672 requires weld sample drawn from 500ft length of pipe and allows you to double the samples in case, original sample fails. A671 requires weld sample drawn from 200ft length of pipe with no provision for rejected weld.
