Good Day to all,

Reference std: ASME SEX IX

Material ASTM A106 Gr B

Pipe Dia and thickness: 2" and 8.74 mm.

Service Fluid: Normal fluid

as per the Standard ASME SEX IX ( no client/company specification involved )

1. What are the minimum testing requirements to qualify the PQR?

2. Is chemical testing required or not?

Thanks

Best Regards

For your 2-inch 8 mm thick CS pipe welded, as per ASME Sec. IX standard, you require:
Visual examination,
2 Tensile tests,
2 each in the face and root bends.
No hardness, impact  and chemical tests are required.
Use the MTC of the base metal if required.
Micro/Macro are required for Fillet weld only.
C Sridhar.

Chemical testing is not mandatory until unless requirement from Clients, we do Chemical Testing of PQR, this is the requirement of the Client to confirm whether the used electrode batch is meeting the requirements or not.

Inaddition to the below. Please ensure

1. Minimum Design Metal Temperature (MDMT) to determine the Impact test requirement. Normally A 106 Gr,.B pipe used for a temperature of -29degC.
2. Please check with Mechanical Testing Lab, how many (2inch Pipe) coupons required for the PQR, may be 4 Nos

Thanks & Regards

Hi All,
Chemical testing is mandatory for Corrosion resistant/Hard facing overlay PQR but not butt welds.

Regards,
Mr. Harish.

As answered by everyone, chemical is not required.

Notwithstanding, please note that A-No. which denotes weld metal chemical composition is an essential variable, but carbon steel weld metal falls into A-No.1 only.

Pl note your PQR will be valid only for those weld consumables which gives deposits matching to A-No.1 & 2 only, as per section IX.

Regards,
Mohmmed
