Dear Krishan,

A weld for a welded pipe or a weld for an attachement to the pipe should not be located within a distance of approximately 6 times the pipe wall nominal thickness or 2" whichever is greater,

                    Can you tell me reference standard for the below statement.I heard and saw in asme it's 4 times the wall thickness.

To the best of my knowledge, ASME B31.3 doesn't say anything about it, the below phrase is taken from AS2885.2, and used universally.
