Please refer API 620 and or API 650 for the material equivalent grouping and select the particular ASTM Material based on its properties.

Thanks & Regards

The equivalent ASTM material for EN-10025 - 2 (S275 J2) is ASTM A572 Grade 42. Both materials have a minimum yield strength of 275 MPa, and a minimum tensile strength of 500 MPa. The impact toughness requirements are also similar, with EN-10025 - 2 (S275 J2) requiring a minimum impact energy of 27 J at 20°C, and ASTM A572 Grade 42 requiring a minimum impact energy of 27 J at -10°C.

Here is a table of the equivalent grades for EN-10025 - 2 (S275 J2):

EN GradeASTM Grade
S275 J2A572 Grade 42
S275 J0A572 Grade 44
S275 JRA1011/A1011M

There is one big difference: The EN 10025-2 steel is CE marked according to EN 10025-1. For steel construction products to be used in Europe, EN 10025-2 steels need to be CE-marked, and cannot be substituted to something “alike”.

Normally stockist have some Tables regarding comparison based on mechanical properties but it has to be authorised by an Engineer based on its application.

1. If it is for some external attachment to external attachment, then stockist proposal may be considered.
2. If it is between External attachment to Pressure boundary, then Carbon Equivalent and preheat and composition need to be considered.
3. If it is for Tank construction only code governed alternative shall be considered.

Moreover, ASTM A572 Gr.42 contains the addition of niobium, Vanadium & Nitrogen and falls under low alloy steel for structural applications whereas EN 10025 S375 is considered unalloyed Steel, for structural applications.

Please find below the snap shot of ASTM A572 and it has some restrictions on welding.
