ASME BPV Sec VIII div1

Subject: UHA-51(c) (1), impact testing required for Austenitic stainless steels thermally treated between 480 0C – 900 0C

Back Ground: A vessel dished end (welded) subjected to solution annealing (PFHT) at temperature 1040 0C; MOC-304 and MDMT -0.7 0C

Question (1): Does this condition exempted from impact testing, if so why? Since it not within the temperature range specified (i.e. between 480 0C – 900 0C)

Thanking You & Best Regards

The requirement of impact testing for the material exposed to 480-900 deg.
C is due to the sensitization of the SS material. since material hot worked
at 1000 deg. C followed by air/water quenching will avoid the exposure to
the above temperature range. So, the impact-requirement is not applicable
for the latter.

Dear Sir,

UHA(c)(1) says, "vessel(production) impact tests of the thermally treated weld metals are performed for Category A and B joints:"
what are the joints for which impact can be excempted.

Prabhakar.

Dear All,

Please let me know if somebody have the book "Piping Calculations Manual (Mcgraw-Hill) by Shashi Menon".

Thanks & regards,
Khalid Iqbal
