We wana weld SS-310 to Incoloy 800, could we get a sound weld by using ER-310 filler for dissimilar joint. Would it cause cracking of the dissimilar weld with ER-310 filler. Normally NiCr base fillers (F # 43) are used for these kind of dissimilar welds.

Dear Shahzad:
In these cases, old-school welding engineers use the below diagram for prediction of structure.
It's a little bit complicated but I will try to to give you an idea:
You should have chemical analysis of your candidate filler metal, SS-310 and Incoloy-800. This is required for calculating Cr-eqv. (horizontal axis) and Ni-eqv. (vertical axis).
You will have one point for filler and one for each of the base metals.
Interpolation between these three points (considering dilution) will give you the approximate point for weld metal and you will be able to predict the structure. Then you can decide which filler to use...
Also the following page will give you a good idea about using schaeffler & Delong diagrams.

Dear Shahzad:
Of course each diagram has its own application range and limitations which should be considered.
Schaeffler
& Delong diagrams are normally used for prediction of weld metal
structure in weldments which include austenitic stainless steels.
Ni-base
weldments are quite different since they are already fully austenitic
and are usually "harmless" unless cleanliness or the precipitations
cause problems.
