Dear All.

1.Does anybody have any knowledge and experiences about doing of level 3 of F.F.S for crack and fatigue damage mechanism?
2.which soft wares recommended and is better for analyses based on part 5 of ASME SEC VIII DIV II,predicting of crack growth rate,....?

Regards.

Ali,

Level 3 assessment is the ultimate analysis for any fitness for service assessment & involves FEA(Finite Element Analysis). Many of the preliminary issues related to crack or crack like damages could be assessed by Level-1 & Level-2 assessment as described in API-RP-579.

In fact most scientific & logical  way is to :

·         Start Level-1, if the damage mechanisms surpasses the provided limits

·         Then go to level 2

·         If the damages are beyond the scope of level-2,

·         then go for the final level, level-3

All these  levels & required steps are clearly specified API RP 579.

There’re many proprietary software available in the market, e.g. TWI-Crackwise, Signal FFS, and many more. A search in google will reveal that. Softwares are expensive, easily upwards of $ 5000 USD to install and annual license fees of $ 1000 or more to get the updates.

However a word of caution “NOT ALL SOFTWARES DELVER WHAT’S ADVERTISED”. The accuracy level differs. A simple calculation by two competitive software would reveal the differences. However you need qualified personnel to assess those. If required get the demonstration/trial software first and then make up your mind.

I was categorically educated about these  during the FFS training , which I took in Cleveland on July, 2006.

Hence one may have to exercise the options of both manual and FEA for API 579 FFA, as and when required.

Thanks.

Dear Ali,

NozzlePRO FFS from Paulin Research Group is an industry standard for Fitness for Service evaluations using API 579 Level 3 checks. It also does fatigue evaluations according to Part 5 of ASME BPVC VIII-2.
INSPECT from CODEWARE is another software that can conduct API 510, API 570, API 653 and API 579-1/ASME FFS-1 2016 calculations, and also has NozzlePRO FFS integrated with it.
I have a full INSPECT license with NozzlePRO FFS. You can contact me if you need help.

Regards,
Emilio.
