Dear All,

as per ASME sec 9,

For welder qualification,
as per QW -350, P-Numbers are essential variable.
so change in p number needs to requalified.
& G-Number is not an essential variable. its no issues with G-Number.

1) My question is the above said are right or not..?
If any correction. pl let me know...

Q2) & is the welder qualified to weld P1 to P11, P34, P41 to 49.?

clear me on above issues..

Thanks & Regards
Srinivas

Hi,

means if welder is qualified in one of P1 to P11, P34, P41toP49 (homogen P number material) he's qualified to weld  all homogen material Pnumber P1 to P11, P34, P41toP49. Just take care of others essential variables.

Regards

The PQR has demonstrated that the base metals can be welded and appropriate properties can be met with a selected filler metal under specific conditions.

The welder performance test demonstrates that welder has the skill and ability to make a sound weld deposit with the process and required filler metal.  Therefore the choice of base metal is expanded, per QW-423, to broad types and is why P-Number is not an essential variable.

Dear Friend,

You are correct that if any welder qualified with P1 material then range of his qualification P1 to P15f, P34, P41 to P49

But at same F-No. also essential variable. By this if any welder qualify in P1 then he cannot weld in P8 (SS 304) because change in F-No. essential variable.

Shaunak

Hi Shaunak,

If the welder is qualified by GTAW process only in CS (Pno1), he can also weld SS (Pno 8) with GTAW process. Since both are having same F no. But not vice versa.

But If the welder is qualified by SMAW process only in CS (Pno1), he can not be qualified to weld SS (Pno 8) with SMAW process. Since both are having different F nos.

Hope this will be more clear!

Cheers!

Raj

Dear Mr. Raj,

Yes you are correct.

In first case GTAW: Deletion in Backing QW-402.4 is essential for welder qualification only.
