Dear All,
Gas Tip material SS310.
Company
Specification says use 316L filler Wire, can we use
filler wire SS316L?
What are equivalent consumables for ER310 ?
ER310 to 316L ?
Please give your suggestions. Explain with reference.
Thanks,
PKM

Type 310 has 24-26% Cr and 19-22% Ni, and is suitable for High temperature service up to ~1100-12600C.
Mostly used for furnace parts (cement industries), heat treatment baskets, burners, etc.
Type 316 has 16-18% Cr,11-14% Ni, and 2-3% Mo and is suitable for service temperature up to ~800-860 °C, i.e., weaker at high Temperatures. Hence, not recommended (due to differences in composition and resulting mechanical properties) for welding 310 due to the risk of hot cracking, loss of oxidation resistance. So, the use of 316L is incorrect unless the design service is very mild (not a high temp.) and the client accepts the responsibility.
The matching consumable for 310 is E/ER310. In case you want to join 310 to 316L (dissimilar joining), use E/ER 309MoL or ERNiCr-3 (Inconel 82) for critical or cyclic service.
