Dear all,

I have an top issues on my work this time. Mark on joint weldment already repair 4 times because of cracking. Header pipe 30" mark-on pipe 12" schedule 40. Please advice me on PWHT requirement, filler metal use, welding details, heat input etc. Thank you in advance. 😔

Yes sir, 30" pipe also sch 40. Also have reinforcement pad on it.

This joint doesn't require any PWHT however a minimum preheat of 149 C is recommended. In case of no preheat being used for this weld joint, you may face cracking. The other reasons include the interpass temperature that should minimum be kept at preheat temperature. Maximum at 316 C.
Fillers to be used include: ER80S-B2 for GTAW, E8018-B2 for SMAW

Amperage for E8018: 70-100A if electrode dia is 2.4 mm; 115-155A for dia 3.2 mm; 135-185A for dia 4.0 mm

Governing thickness of the joint doesn't qualify for any PWHT. Cool under insulation.

(Construction code has been taken as ASME B31.3 to recommend you the preheat an post weld heat treatment requirements)
