I would like to get the advice for belows;
Subject: QW-424.1 (ASME BPV Sec IX) Base metals used for procedure qualification
Back Ground: A PQR was qualified from P-No. 5A metal to P-No. 5A with performing impact test at -29 degree C. The WPS will be used to the weld joint which is required an impact test.
Question: Can I write the WPS for P-No. 5A metal to P-No. 4A regardless group No of P 4A?
NO, not if impacts are required for production welding. See QW-403.5 (b)
(b) for ferrous materials, a base metal listed in the same
P‐Number Group Number in Table QW/QB-422 as the
base metal to be used in production welding
