Masting underway?

Dear all,

There have been observations of at least three species of Shorea (gibbosa, macroptera, johorensis) and at least two species of Dipterocarpus (kunstleri, grandiflorus) flowering and developing fruits in Singapore in the past two weeks. I am wondering if there has been similar observations elsewhere in the region?

Here are some quick observations and an image from Eyen Khoo of the Forest Research Center in Sandakan:

Both Parashoreas flowering (whitish crown in the image below), Shorea xanthophylla has just started, young fruit on keruing (D. grandiflorus) and selangan.

Her team will be going in today to conduct a more systematic survey

Not sure if a lot is flowering now, but we had lots of fruiting trees around September-October last year in Brunei.
