Hello all,

I have some doubts related to Friction pendulum isolator element inputs.
  1. Is there any way to include displacement limit of bearing as input in this element? or any of the existing inputs take care of the displacement limit of bearing.
  2. Does the formulation take the displacement limit of bearing into account?
Thank you,
N.Bhagya Sree

Hi Bhagya Sree,

No, there is no input parameter for displacement limit of the friction pendulum bearing. It is unlikely that a well-designed FP isolator will reach its displacement limit in practice. If you want to model the isolator deforming beyond its displacement limit, you might consider modeling the isolator explicitly (2D, or 3D mesh of the isolator by modeling the contact surface, etc.) depending on the problem at hand.

Best regards,

Chandu

Hi Chandu Bolisetti,

Thank you for clarifying my doubts, I was wondering about inputting the displacement limit of bearing and felt I am missing the connection in the inputs that directly takes care of the displacement limit of an isolator.

Thanks and regards
