Subject: Two doctoral research opportunities in data analytics, social
media, and human dynamics modeling at San Diego State University
Dr. Atsushi Nara and Dr. Ming-Hsiang Tsou are seeking two motivated
students to pursue doctoral degrees in Geographic Information Science
in the Department of Geography at the San Diego State University. The
successful applicants will work on the projects hosted by the new
Center for Human Dynamics in the Mobile Age (HDMA)
http://humandynamics.sdsu.edu/ related to data analytics, social
media, and human dynamics modeling starting in Fall 2015.
The preferred candidates should have strong interests in Geographic
Information Science, data analytics, machine learning, agent-based
modeling, and scientific visualization applied to human dynamics in
the contexts of urban geography, social behavior, social media,
disaster mitigation, public health, and/or epidemiology. Strong
quantitative skills (e.g., computer modeling, statistics), programing
experiences (e.g., C++, Java, .Net, or python), excellent written and
verbal communication skills, and ability to work in an
interdisciplinary team environment are desirable.
The salary and benefits include:
·A teaching associate position with a salary of about $17,000/year

·Fully paid tuition which can range from $4,000 - $13,000/year
·Possibility of travel awards ranging from $500/year to $1,000/year
