A PhD position is open for a collaborative project on hybrid reality between LIP6 and Orange Labs. The student will address issues concerning scalability in hybrid reality systems such as handling spatial queries on large sets of moving objects. The distributed algorithms designed by the student are intended to be implemented in a working service prototype.

Although the primary application is an hybrid reality system – ie a realtime mirror world combined with a shared augmented reality system – the project is expected to contribute to the nascent field of distributed computational geometry. And as more and more realtime location data are available from smartphones (GPS, gyroscopes, etc...) scalability issues in spatial queries will become critical, making then distributed solutions imperative.

We are looking for an autonomous and ambitious student with a strong background in distributed computing. Previous experience with  computational geometry or spatial databases algorithms is a plus but not a requirement.

Application: send a CV and contact information of two references to joaquin...@orange-ftgroup.com

Advisors: Pierre Sens (LIP6) and Joaquin Keller (Orange Labs)

Monthly salary: ~1900euros (US$2700)

Location:
Université P&M Curie, LIP6 - REGAL Team. 4, place Jussieu. 75252 Paris
and
Orange Labs. 38-40 rue du Général Leclerc. 92794 Issy les Moulineaux
