different menu possible?

I'm using on most templates this menu: https://github.com/openshift-quickstart/joomla-example/blob/master/php/modules/mod_menu/mod_menu.php

I thought to be clever, and change the mod_menu in MB for this one. It doesn't work.
How do i get this mod_menu working in MB?

I like it, because it allows to open the top links too. That's not possible in the default MB menu.
