MassWildlife Monthly March
Spring Trout Stocking is Underway
MassWildlife staff are stocking nearly 500,000 brook, rainbow, brown, and tiger trout across Massachusetts this year. Stocking began in early March, and 75% of the trout will be over 12 inches!

Black Bears are Now Active
With spring approaching, black bears are coming out of hibernation and searching for food. If you have bird feeders or keep chickens, bee hives, or livestock, take precautions now to keep bears wild and out of neighborhoods.

Meet Your Neighbors Mural
Did you know endangered animals and plants might be living right in your community? To raise awareness of endangered wildlife conservation, artist Jovielle Gers recently completed a mural in Boston featuring some of the state's rarest species.

2022 Youth Turkey Hunt
Hunter Education graduates aged 12–17 are invited to participate in the 2022 Youth Turkey Hunt on April 23. First-time participants must complete a seminar before the day of the hunt (available online or at a participating club).

Report Fish Kills
Thick ice and snow can lead to decreased oxygen levels in ponds, causing a fish kill. If you see dead fish, report it. While most fish kills are caused by natural events, it's important for biologists to rule out other causes like pollution.

Funding for Habitat Management
MassWildlife, the Massachusetts Forest Alliance, and the USDA Natural Resource Conservation Service recently announced a new round of funding for habitat management on private forest lands to benefit wildlife.

Upcoming Events
  • March 22: Fisheries and Wildlife Board Meeting, Virtual
  • April 9: Growing Up WILD Professional Development Workshop, Concord
