Asheville Rising

When Hurricane Helene struck, Asheville—a city often idealized as a “climate haven”—was brought to its knees. From prolonged power outages to a months-long loss of potable water, the storm tested every aspect of our infrastructure and resilience planning. Clay Mitchell, Esq. PhD, offers an unfiltered, on-the-ground personal account of the chaos, heartbreak, and powerful stories of community recovery that have emerged in Helene’s wake. Join us to explore the observations and hard-earned lessons from a city still navigating the road to recovery—and why no place is immune from the accelerating impacts of climate change. Participants will leave with practical insights to proactively plan for community resilience, improve current conditions, and better prepare for the compounding challenges ahead from a city focused on building back stronger.

This year's conference focus:

  • Affordable and Resilient Housing
  • Community Health
  • Energy Resilience
  • Flood Resilience
  • Group sessions, keynotes, & how to finance local solutions
  • Training, tours, site visits, networking, and fun!!
