I made a little after work excursion late this afternoon to Horn Pond and was not disappointed. Nine species tallied. I did not get to any good early spring lep sites last year due to the whole COVID fiasco so it was nice to see some of these Elfins and such.

Weather conditions: Mostly clear, mild, around 60 deg.F

Mourning Cloak (Nymphalis antiopa) 2, worn
American Painted Lady (Vanessa virginiana) 1

Brown Elfin (Callophrys augustinus) 7 or 8
Henry's Elfin (Callophrys henrici) 2
Eastern Pine Elfin (Incisalia niphon) about 6 perching and jousting up in some small Pitch Pines.
Olive Hairstreak (Mitorua gryneus) 3
Gray Hairstreak (Strymon melinus) 1
Spring Azure (Celastrina ladon) 2

Cabbage White (Pieris rapae) 1 (at hospital parking area)
