We were looking for birds and butterflies at Moose Brook WMA in Barre, a section of which runs through a powerline corridor filled with asters, goldenrod, and more. Our surprise butterfly was an American Snout, which settled leaf-like on a bare stem for several minutes, allowing for photos. It was very active and moving quickly before finding that stem; Alan was glad to be able to get a photo (attached). The rest of our list:
3 Black Swallowtail
10 Cabbage White
23 Clouded Sulphur
1 Orange Sulphur
12 Monarch
1 Common Wood Nymph (worn)
8 Pearl Crescent
4 Zabulon Skipper, all males
