Birds and Butterflies Massachusetts Butterfly Club and Forbush Bird Club Fieldtrip in Leicester 7/19/26

The weather was sunny with temps at 65-70 degrees on Sunday, July 19, when the 12 participants of the Birds and Butterflies fieldtrip in Leicester enjoyed observations of 17 species of butterflies and 24 species of birds. 

Butterfly Species Observed were:

spicebush swallowtail 2

cabbage white 1

clouded sulphur 6

American copper 2

eastern tailed-blue 2

summer azure 1

great spangled fritillary 5

silver-bordered fritillary 1

pearl crescent 31

white admiral 1

viceroy 1

Appalachian brown 2

little wood-satyr 2

common wood-nymph 6

silver-spotted skipper 1

northern broken-dash 1

dun skipper 2

Some of the bird highlights included:  bobolink, eastern kingbird, savannah sparrow, scarlet tananger, chimney swift, kestrel, black vulture, and common yellow-throat.
