Birds & Butterflies – Mt. Jefferson Conservation Area, Hubbardston
This conservation area features several roadside fields and wooded paths and trails. We can usually expect a good variety of butterfly and bird species. We’ll initially look and listen for late-summer breeding bird species and their fledglings, as well as unexpected birds that may already have dispersed from their usual nesting areas. If/when the sun warms the landscape, we should start to see butterflies foraging in the fields. There are opportunities to use shaded areas if it becomes uncomfortably hot. If there is interest, we’ll visit a nearby DCR-owned property in search of Silver-bordered Fritillary. Bring water/beverage, snacks. If needed, please use natural insect repellant only. Restrooms at Mr. Mike's on Main Street.
