We went to Arnold Arboretum in Boston this afternoon, hoping to see Pipevine Swallowtail and hairstreaks. It was mostly sunny, warm and no wind when we got there at 3:30 and stayed for 2 hours. We went up to the top of Bussey Hill, where we saw:
2 Pipevine Swallowtail
1 Red-spotted Admiral
2 Monarch
3 Tiger Swallowtail
1 Sulphur (sp)
3 Azure (sp)
2 Black Swallowtail
1 Cabbage White
The Pipevine Swallowtails were fairly faded and worn, but still recognizable; the swallowtails and Admiral were chasing around the top of the hill. The Monarchs and Sulphur were nectaring on clover in a field just below the top of the hill.
