Hi Everyone!
Greetings from Yajiang [Sichuan Province] where even the most primitive
hotel has free wifi.
As of this writing, we are on the cusp of the ten day period in
Massachusetts when we traditionally look for some of the most sought after
butterflies in our fair state: Persius duskywing, Hessel's hairstreak, bog
elfin, and early hairstreak. Sorry I can't be there to join the hunt. Good luck
to all.
Here are a few "ticklers" from Sichuan Province. Yesterday, in Kangding, on
our third and last try, we found the main target species for the first part of
our trip, Bhutanitis thaidina, a spectacular swallowtail. see for
yourself:
What a bug!
Also, a couple of fairly common, but spectacularly colored lycaenids:
A great trip so far. With the exception of Vanessa cardui [painted lady]
and Pieris rapae [cabbage white - but a different subspecies], every butterfly
we find is "new" to me.
See you in June - and don't forget we'll be hunting for two-spotted skipper
in early July.
Cheers,
Frank
