I was uncertain as to whether to attend the Petersham outing because of the
weather, and instead opted to visit a favorite butterflying spot on DCR Ware
River Watershed property here in Hubbardston. When the sun occasionally
broke through, I found perhaps a couple of dozen or more Silver-bordered
Fritillaries at this location, many more than I saw here last year.
Also present were many Juvenal's Duskywings, a few Pearl Crescents, and a
couple of Tiger Swallowtails.
In addition, there was a very nice assortment of migrant warblers and other
species, some intriguing moths, dragonflies (not yet identified), painted
turtles, etc.
I would be happy to take others out to this spot this year or next if there
is interest. Last year there was a second, smaller flight of the SB
Fritillaries in August.
